Exynos vs. Snapdragon – Comparison

Exynos vs Snapdragon Comparison

What is Exynos?

Exynos is a ARM-based system on chips (SoCs) which is developed and manufactured by Samsung Electronics. The first Exynos was launched in 2011 on Samsung Galaxy SII which features a higher clock frequency and 50 higher 3D graphics as compare to the previous generation. Later on Samsung launched the Exynos 5250 which was also later named as Exynos 5 dual. It supports USB 3.0 and SATA 3, and can also videos up to 1080p at 60fps along with the resolution of (2560×1600) on mobile.

What is Snapdragon?

Snapdragon is Mobile family on board chip which is made by Qualcomm for smartphones and tablets. Snapdragon user ARM RISC instruction is set with multiple CPU cores, GPU and other software and hardware to support global positioning system, camera and video. Snapdragon chip is used in Google smartphones and window phones. They also are used in wearable devices and many other places. The snapdragon 820 and 821 is most powerful chips that Qualcomm has ever made. Samsung Galaxy S7 use the Snapdragon 820 chip set. Snapdragon 835 is an upcoming chip with rumors that it will be used in the Galaxy S8.

Which Is The Better?

The basic difference is the number of cores: The Exynos is an octa-chip set and Snapdragon is quad-core chip set. As the Exynos cores are clock at lower speed than Qualcomm Snapdragon cores, ARM’s big architecture in the Exynos chip allow 4 core to handle lighter task and other 4 core to handle bigger task which gives the user better Multi-Processing. So this means when all 8 cores are firing at once, the performance of the phone will degrade with the Snapdragon. This is was not always the case, but recently the Exynos chip has outgunned the Snapdragon chip in benchmarks test. On the other hand, Snapdragon has LTE chip integrated and also support 4K video recording.

Exynos-powered Galaxy S7 is faster than the Snapdragon 820 version!

As you all know, Samsung launched two variant of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. The one power with Snapdragon 820 chipset and other one with Samsung Exynos 8890 chipset. Benchmark show that the Snapdragon 820 chipset model was in fact is more powerful than the Exynos 8890 chipset. But in fact it’s believed that Qualcomm processors are faster than Exynos chipset.
